A private number refers to a phone number that is intentionally withheld or hidden from caller ID displays. When a call is made from a private number, the recipient sees “Private Number,” “Unknown,” or “Blocked” instead of the actual phone number. This feature is often used for privacy reasons, to prevent the recipient from identifying or returning the call. Private numbers are commonly associated with telemarketing, anonymous calls, or personal calls where the caller prefers to remain unlisted.
